DAY 1: Moshi to Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp 8 km, 5-7 hours Montane Forest

The day begins with a 50-minute drive to Machame Gate where registration formalities will be completed. You will then transfer through villages and coffee and banana plantations to Umbwe Gate. The trail ascends sharply on a forestry track that winds up the dense rainforest. The path narrows and steepens as we climb the ridge between two rivers surrounded by huge trees. Umbwe Camp is perched between trees and thick undergrowth.

DAY 2: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp

• Elevation: 9,514 ft to 13,044 ft
• Distance: 6 km/4 miles
• Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
• Habitat: Heath

The second day of the trek follows rockier terrain with sparse undergrowth and straggly, moss-covered trees. As you gain elevation, glimpses of Kilimanjaro can be seen. The path flattens as we approach Barranco Valley. From Umbwe Ridge, the route descends to Barranco Camp through the strange but beautiful Senecio Forest.

DAY 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

• Elevation: 13,044 ft to 13,106 ft
• Distance: 5 km/3 miles
• Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
• Habitat: Alpine Desert

You will begin the day by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall. Then you will climb the non-technical but steep, nearly 900 ft cliff. From the top of the Barranco Wall, you will cross a series of hills and valleys until you descend sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb up leads us to Karanga Camp. This is a shorter day meant for acclimatization.

DAY 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

• Elevation: 13,106 ft to 15,331 ft
• Distance: 4 km/2 miles
• Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
• Habitat: Alpine Desert

You will leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the rocky section of Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here you will make camp, rest, and enjoy an early dinner to prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are viewable from this position.

DAY 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak

• Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft
• Distance: 5 km/3 miles
• Hiking Time: 7-8 hours
• Habitat: Arctic

Very early in the morning (around midnight), you will begin your push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. You will ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, you will arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa.

DAY 6: MWEKA CAMP TO MWEKA GATE

• Elevation: 10,065 ft to 5,380 ft
• Distance: 10 km/6 miles
• Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
• Habitat: Rain Forest

On our last day, you will continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, you will continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka Village to drive you back to the hotel in Moshi.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO ARUSHA -TARANGIRE

This morning you will travel to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is Tanzania’s third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah and up to six thousand elephant. Enjoy your afternoon game drive.

DAY 2: TARANGIRE TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast drive to one of the most famous game parks in Africa, the Serengeti. Here is home to millions of wildebeest during the migration and over the huge flat plains you are likely to find lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena and many other small predators. All afternoon will be spent on game drive before enjoying dinner and the experience of sleeping in the middle of the Serengeti.

DAY 3: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Today you have a full day to enjoy the Serengeti. Here you have plenty of time to travel to different areas of the park, possibly in search of the migration. Enjoy your picnic lunch before transferred to your accommodation for relaxation and overnight stay.

DAY 4: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

An early morning start in the Serengeti to try and find cats before they retreat away from the blazing sun during the day. After a few hours game drive in the Serengeti drive to the Ngorongoro Highlands for a short game drive before transferred to your accommodation in Karatu for overnight stay.

NOTE: For those who will wish to book for Hot Air ballon there will been pick up from the camp at 05:00 am to 06:00 am departure, if you wish to book for balloon safari please let us known for advance the price is 650$ per person, after your 60 – 90minute (depending on wind condition) aerial adventure, you’ll enjoy a bush breakfast and champagne. Thereafter your driver guide will pick you up for your full-day game drive.

DAY 5: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CREATOR

An early morning start in the Serengeti to try and find cats before they retreat away from the blazing sun during the day. After a few hours game drive in the Serengeti drive to the Ngorongoro Highlands for a short game drive before transferred to your accommodation in Karatu for overnight stay.

DAY 6: NGORONGORO CREATOR

This morning you will descend into the crater – a wonderful haven for wildlife. Ngorongoro is unique in that almost all the wildlife live within the crater walls hence you have the opportunity to find game easily. Rhino, in particular, can be seen regularly as well as prides of lion and other predators like cheetah. Enjoy lunch by the hippo pond and by mid afternoon, commence your drive to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 7: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

This morning you will enjoy a game drive of Lake Manyara National Park, described as one of the hidden gems of Tanzania. This park is famous for its tree climbing lions and large herds of elephant (which are not shy to come straight up to the vehicle). After lunch commence your drive back to Arusha or transferred direct to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight back home.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ARUSHA

After arrival at the airport (Kilimanjaro International Airport/ Arusha Airport), your private driver guide will pick you up and transfer you to your accommodation(Gran Meliá Arusha). There you’ll have dinner and your overnight stay awaiting your safari departure the following day.

DAY 2: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will depart to Tarangire National Park. The park is named after the Tarangire River which runs through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the only source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. In some places, the vegetation is quite dense, including elephant grass, acacia woodlands and lush groundwater forest. The park is well known for its elephant families, which can often be seen congregating by the river. You may also see giraffe, bushbuck and hartebeest. These animals are closely followed by a range of predators, including lions and leopards. There are more breeding species of birds found in Tarangire National Park than anywhere else on the planet!
After lunch and an extensive game drive, we will head for our luxury partner lodges near Tarangire for dinner and your overnight stay.

DAY 3: MARAMBOI TO LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will depart to Lake Manyara National Park which is an unspoilt paradise and is best known for its abundance of birds and tree-climbing lions. The dramatic western escarpment of the Rift Valley forms the park’s western border. To the east is the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara. The lake covers a large area of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons and is home to thousands of flamingos during the rains. The name Manyara comes from the Maasai word ‘emanyara’, a popular plant which is used to build the protective enclosure around a family homestead (boma). The park’s vegetation is diverse, ranging from savannah to evergreen forest. On your exploration of the park, you may see giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, elephants and if you are lucky; lions lounging in the trees.
After lunch and an extensive game drive, we’ll head for our luxury partner lodges in Karatu for dinner and your overnight stay.

DAY 4: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK TO NGORONGORO CREATER

After early breakfast, you will descend down the crater which is almost 600m deep.
The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. It is famous for both its geological delights and for being a natural reserve that is home to some of the densest large mammal populations in the whole of the African continent. The drive down into the Crater is an adventure in itself and when you reach the Crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands.
After lunch and an extensive game drive inside the crater, we’ll head for our luxury lodge at the rim of the crater for dinner and your overnight stay.

DAY 5-6: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will depart to Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is truly spectacular. It is famous for its vast open grasslands which allow for excellent sightings of wildlife. The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest national park and is also one of the oldest ecosystems on earth. Its climate and vegetation have remained largely untouched for millions of years. Whilst the Serengeti boasts abundant wildlife, it is perhaps best known for the annual Great Migration. Vast numbers of wildebeest; accompanied by large numbers of zebra and antelope move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The precise timing of the migration is entirely dependent on the rainfall patterns each year. After lunch and an extensive game drive, we’ll head for our tented partner lodges for dinner and your overnight stay.
You will spend 2 nights in this incredible place.

DAY 7-9: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK TO ZANZIBAR

After breakfast, you will head straight to the airstrip depart to Zanzibar airport ZNZ and through (Stone Town) whereby your flight can be arranged at an extra cost before travelling to the northern coast of Zanzibar known as Nungwi which has the kind of white coral sand that seems to glow even after nightfall.
For its entire bustle, it can still feel secluded. Nungwi’s expansive coastline is wide open for swimming and snorkeling in some of Africa’s most pristine, reef-rich waters. It’s one of the rare Zanzibari beaches untroubled by severe undulations of high and low tides, making it perfect for all-day water activities.
There are plenty of activities on offer — walking tours, sunset cruises, diving excursions and parasailing to name a few — but all it really takes is a sunset sighting of traditional dhow boats bobbing in the sea to be captured by this enchanting African beach
You will spend 3 nights on this incredible place.

DAY 10: ONWARD TRANSFER TO AIRPORT/FERRY

After breakfast and a bit of relaxation at the hotel in Zanzibar, you will be transferred straight to the airport or ferry. This will mark the end of your epic adventure.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO ARUSHA

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) which caters for domestic flights, you will be met by an African Big Cats Safaris representative who will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha. Overnight will be at Mtoni River Lodge.

DAY 2: ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we collect you from your hotel in Arusha and drive to the Arusha National Park. The park has an incredible variety of fauna and flora. Hollywood chose this region to film the movie “Hatari” in which Hardy Kruger starred alongside the legendary John Wayne. Your trip includes a visit to the Ngurdoto Crater. Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, zebras and baboons can be seen all year round, as well as many bird species. The park is also known for the black and white colobus monkeys. These monkeys have no thumbs and are good at tree-climbing and jumping from branch to branch. Only a few other national parks in Tanzania give you such an opportunity and it is something that should not be missed.
Lunch will be taken at a picnic site. After plenty of time allocated for you to observe the wildlife, we will drive you back to your accommodation in Arusha for dinner and overnight at Mtoni River Lodge.

DAY 3: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, we depart for Tarangire National Park. The park is named after the Tarangire River which runs through it. After an early breakfast, you will continue with your game-viewing inside Tarangire National Park with a lot of opportunities to capture the images of the African wild. Your private safari guide will take you to the most incredible places, taking into consideration the beauty of the park and all it has to offer in terms of landscape, flora and fauna.

DAY 5 -6: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast, we drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on to Serengeti National Park with game viewing en-route. Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequaled for its natural beauty and scientific value. It has the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa. It is the migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebra flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November. They then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile-infested river can hold them back. Serengeti is truly home to the legendary great wildebeest migration. The Serengeti National Park is where safari-goers come to truly experience an African safari. You will have dinner and overnight at Embalakai Tented Camp.

DAY 7-8: EXPPLORE SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK FOR MORE GAME VIEW

After breakfast, we drive toward western Serengeti on a game-viewing drive. Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world. Unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value, it has the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa. It is the migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebra flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. DAY 9: SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO CONVERSATIONAL AREA

After breakfast, depart from the Serengeti and proceed to the Ngorongoro Crater with a game-viewing drive en-route. It is home to the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth – the great migration of wildebeest and zebra. The resident population of lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and birds is also impressive. There’s a wide variety of accommodation available, from luxury lodges to mobile camps. The park covers 5,700 sq miles (14,763 sq km). It is larger than Connecticut, with at most a couple of hundred vehicles driving around. A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site. In the late afternoon, we continue our drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving at Embalakai Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10: NGORONGORO CREATER TO KARATU

After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game-viewing drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most famous sites and is said to have the highest density of wildlife in Africa. Sometimes described as an: Eighth Wonder of the World” and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the crater has achieved world renown and attracts an ever-increasing number of visitors each year. You are unlikely to escape other vehicles here, but you are guaranteed great wildlife viewing in a genuinely mind-blowing environment. There is nowhere else in Africa quite like Ngorongoro! One of the best places in the country to see the endangered black rhinoceros, the park is home to the entire Big Five and is a particularly good place to see lions and Cape buffaloes year-round. A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site. Late in the afternoon, drive to the Ngorongoro Highlands for your dinner and overnight at Eileen’s Tree Inn.

DAY 11: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, continue on a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Your first encounter on the game-viewing drive will be the large troops of baboons.
Lake Manyara National Park is a protected area in Tanzania’s Arusha and Manyara regions, situated between Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley. Lake Manyara National Park boasts a spectacular array of diverse terrain as well as plant and animal species. Established specifically to protect the elephant herds that have made the area renowned, the park provides an amazing wildlife experience. Elephants are not the only animals that Lake Manyara is famous for. Tree-climbing lions are also seen occasionally. A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site. Late afternoon, continue on a short drive to the Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner and overnight at Eileen’s Tree Inn.

DAY 12: KARATU TO ARAUSHA

You will wake up in the morning for a hot cup of tea/coffee and enjoy your breakfast. You will have some time to relax, before packing your belongings. Proceed for the drive in the private safari Land Cruiser directly to Arusha. This marks the end of your epic “Golden Photography” adventure with a certificate in hand for the accomplishment of this incredible and unique package. Transfer to the airport for your flight back home or for a flight to Zanzibar.
